Designer
Frank Hillsberg
Frank Hillsberg (1914-2011) was a New York-based artist and title designer best known for his collaborations with American filmmaker Sidney Lumet.
Around 1950, Hillsberg founded F. Hillsberg Inc., a small graphic arts studio devoted to advertising and title design. Located at 9th Avenue and W 54th Street in Manhattan, Hillsberg's studio occupied the same building as Film Opticals, a company which he collaborated with frequently. He is also known to have collaborated with Paramount's animation division Famous Studios (formerly Fleischer Studios) on a number of projects.
Hillsberg later joined forces with Fred Meyer to form Hillsberg/Meyer (also credited as Hillsberg & Meyer and Hillsburg/Meyer Inc). Over the course of his career, Hillsberg produced title designs and title sequences for dozens of films such as The Pawnbroker, Fail-Safe, The Sea Gull, Popi, Cotton Comes to Harlem, Hercules in New York, House of Dark Shadows, The Last Tycoon, and The Anderson Tapes.
Hillsberg passed away on June 5, 2011 at the age 97.
